How to clean out the charging port on your phone

August 10th, 2011 by admin

I had a problem with my car charger not staying in my phone.  I had actually went and bought a new car charger thinking there was something wrong with my charger.  The new charger still did not want to stay in my phone.  I took a plastic dental pic (that you can get with dental floss on them) and used the sharp pointed tip to slide under the charging port and cleaned out pocket lint.  You could not see the pocket lint in the charging port, but this fixed the charger not wanting to stay plugged into my phone.

How do you clean your phones camera lens?

August 10th, 2011 by admin

After a while and especially if you carry your phone in your pocket the camera lens will get dirty.  If you have noticed the quality of your camera phone pics getting worse or being fuzzy then your camera phone lens is probably dirty.  The best way to clean your camera phone lens is with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol.  Dip one end of the q-tip in the rubbing alcohol and then rub it over your lens to clean it.  Take the dry end of the q-tip and then dry the lens off.

Speed up your Android phone and save battery life with Task Killer

August 10th, 2011 by admin

Advanced Task Killer Free is not only free but is a must app for your android phone.  While your phone is running over time Android will start and run different apps rather you are using them or not.  Over time this slows your android device down.  You can use Advanced Task Killer Free to close all of the apps on your phone which will speed your Android device up by selecting “KILL selected apps”.  You can select to Auto Kill apps at an interval which will keep your phone running faster and also save your battery life.  With less apps running on your phone your phones processor will not run as much which will use more battery life.  I have Advanced Task Killer set to kill apps every hour on my Android.  You can select your “Auto Kill Frequency” from settings from when the screen is off to every 4 hours.

How do you remove apps from your Android Phone?

August 10th, 2011 by admin

How do you remove apps from your desktop screen on Android phones?  You put your finger on the app icon and hold it on the app until “drag item to rearrange or remove” appears at the top of the screen.  Then drag the icon to the “remove” folder at the bottom of the screen.  This does not delete the app from the phone it only removes the app from the desktop.

My favorite free checkbook app for android

August 1st, 2011 by admin

My favorite check book/banking app for my android smart phone is a free app called “loot.”   I have been using this app for a while.  You are able to set up multiple bank accounts.  You can add and subtract funds as you need.  Label your withdraws or deposits what you want.  You can go back and edit your entries.  Loot keeps a running balance and allows you to set up a budget if you want.

I have tried other free checking account managers but this one is very simple.  It does not have to connect to any bank account online.  It pretty much works as a digital register that you control.  You can have accounts set up for different checking, savings or any other money accounts that you want.

Just search for “loot” from your android market.

Speed up your netbook or laptop for cheap

August 1st, 2011 by admin

I am writing this blog post from an Acer netbook (that wasnt very expensive at all) while I set and watch a movie.   My netbook like all netbooks runs windows 7.  With any computer running windows 7 you can connect a thumb drive that is “ready boost” equiped and it can act as RAM.  A ready boost thumb drive will not be as fast as on board ram because USB 2.0 is not as fast transporting data as on board RAM.  But this will speed up your netbook/laptop and make a noticeable difference for very low cost.

After you connect your thumb drive open your “computer” from the start menu.  Next right click on the drive that is your USB drive.  Example- (D) or which ever letter is assigned to your thumb drive.  Then choose “properties” from the right click menu.  Then check the tab named “ready boost” then choose to either “dedicate this device to ready boost” and then you can select the amount of memory from the thumb drive that it will dedicate to being ram for your netbook/laptop.

It is that simple.  I purchased an 8gig thumb drive that I am currently using on my netbook as 4gigs to dedicate to RAM.
